Christmas in Thailand

Christmas in Thailand is on 25th of December, always in winter. Winter in Thailand is sometimes cold or even hot. You will rarely see people go to church because most Thai people are Buddhists. We never get presents for Christmas. In Bangkok and other big towns all the department stores, shopping malls and big hotels usually put up a big Christmas tree. They are often in competition to see who can put up a bigger or brighter Christmas tree. Christmas in Thailand is just for young people and children go out and take some photos by a Christmas tree or have dinner together. Thai people like to celebrate even if Christmas is not our religion’s celebration. The best place to see a nice Christmas tree in Bangkok is Central World Plaza because it is very big and very bright.

Thai recipe : Tom Yum Kung

Thai recipe: Tom Yum Kung
This dish is called Tom Yum Kung, Thai hot and sour shrimp soup.
For this soup you need:


Ingredients:

• Water or chicken stock 5 cups
• 250 g shrimps (peeled and cleaned)
• 50 g mushroom
• 4 kaffir lime leaves
• 1 stalk of lemon grass (cut into 3 pieces)
• 5 thin rounds of galangal
• 3 tsp lime juice
• 3 tsp fish sauce
• 3 crushed red chilies
• 2-3 fresh coriander leaves 2-3

Method:

• First, bring water or chicken stock to boil until it bubble
• Then, add kaffir lime leaves, lemon grass and galangal and boil for 5 minutes.
• Next, add shrimps and mushroom and boil until shrimps turn in to orange color.
• After that, add fish sauce, red chilies and turn off the heat.
• Then, add lime juice and put coriander leaves on top.
• Finally, Tom Yum Kung is ready to serve hot with rice.

My hometown

My hometown-Udon Thani

My hometown is called Udon Thani. It is in the North-East part of Thailand or called E-san by some people. It has a population of about 1,530,000 people. Udorn Thani is the 7th biggest town in Thailand. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. There are so many interesting things in Udon Thani. Bann Chiang national museum is the one of the famous places for Thai people and foreign tourists. Udon sunshine perfume, sunshine orchid and silk are other famous things from Udon Thani. Food like sticky rice, papaya salad, which people know as Somtam are famous food from the North-East. Thailand‘s population is about 90% Buddhists. There are many temples in Thailand. Wat Pa Bann Tad is a big peacefull temple and many Buddhists have visited.
